It's good to talk . . . and listen!

It never ceases to amaze me how God goes on working in your life even if it doesn't seem that obvious at the time. Family Work, whilst richly rewarding in many ways can also be frustrating occasionally given that busy, hectic lives means appointments having to be cancelled often at short notice.

Just this morning I felt just a tad despondent. Why can't I get hold of the people I need to speak to? Why is it that two important meetings I want to attend turn out to be on the same day at the same time? Where is the literature I ordered weeks ago that I now urgently need?

And then, within the space of a quarter of an hour, the phone started ringing. My diary started to fill with the people I had been struggling to contact. Then I received a telephone call to inform me that one of the meetings was cancelled which solved that dilemma too. Then, a knock at the door, there stood the postman with a parcel containing the literature I was waiting for!

I am not suggesting that God treats me in a special way, but rather that God treats us ALL in a special way because His love knows no limits and he wants to pour it out on us. God hears our cries for help. He knows what we need. He knows the needs of all creation.

Isn't it a great comfort and blessing to us all that whatever our needs are we have a God who wants to play an active role in our lives. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

It is great to be able to talk to God. But it is also good to listen . . . and give thanks. What have you got to be thankful to God for today?

To Blog or not to Blog

I have thought for a few weeks now about whether I should write a blog or not. It seemed a bit of a pretentious thing to do. After all, I am no great wordsmith or high-brow intellectual. But then I do have opinions and thoughts just like everyone else so why not share them. Everybody, no matter what their status has opinions and of course a wealth of experiences in all sorts of areas so what possible harm cold come from sharing them.

That being said there are of course lots of people with some strange ideas and some of these could prove offensive to others. nevertheless we are very lucky to live in a society that allows and encourages free speech so I am going to have my share of that liberty.

But w
ith that comes responsibility. As a Christian I take that responsibility very seriously. The Bible says "Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing" Proverbs 12:18.

So it is my hope that I would always consider that verse in all my blogs. I also hope that I have the wisdom to know when to blog or not. I neither want to bore people with useless ramblings nor do I want to waste my own time. But I do hope and pray that this blog may be a blessing to somebody and that the odd sentence here or "bears fruit that won't spoil".

Hope I don't let myself, you or the Lord down!
